Warez Quality Guidelines and Ethical Procedures.

  web sites

1> the web site cannot be run on the premise of voting or clicking banners..
so that the user may see all of your broken links in the download section.

2> if there are any banners or voting, you cannot demand people click on them
or threaten there will be no updates if people do not click them.
you may not lie to people, telling them their downloads will be corrupt if
they do not click. no tricks or threats are allowed.

3> you are allowed only 1 intro page or 'enter here' page so you better make
good use of it and there better be direct file links on the second page.

4> absolutely no pop windows unless the free hosting server placed one on it.

5> no annoying java scripts. java may only be used to manage your icons and
file links. it may not be used to produce insulting messages.

6> almost all of the file links must work. you must repair or remove dead links.

7> no shareware, no freeware, no demos and no links to netscape or betrayal in
krondor, on sierra's ftp or civ.zip on ftp.filefact.com or simcity2000 on zdnets ftp.

8> don't steal links from other web masters. upload the stuff yourself.

    =================================================================================
 ftp's

1> everything in it's own folder... no loose files. people don't even download them  anyway.

2> the folder name is the same as the release name or at least as close as you
can get useing valid characters. it must at least contain the full app name,
the version number and the group that released it... example:
    AutoDesk.Mechanical.Desktop.Release.4.with.PowerPack.Option-Xforce

3> put an .nfo file in there so people who don't know what it is can read about it.
nfo files almost always contain a brief description of the program.
this would be the same nfo from who released it. like xforce.nfo and not one from a courier.

4> it might help if you upload the last file first so if the upload cannot be finished,
people will be able to quickly see it is a partial upload.

5> don't repackage official warez or tamper with the files in any way. like that autodesk
program above, xforce released it and it must remain intact the way they released it.
if the release has no-one elses name on it, like a retail copy of something,
then that is different. but use different file names if you repack it.
....yes, this applies to you... cokesmoker of zpage!

    forums

1> try to be polite to people in general... unless it is a flame fest.

2> get permission before posting private, password protected ftp's.

3> destructive behavior, like 200 messages in a day is not tolerated.

4> find your own identity, don't steal someone elses.

5> don't post personal info about people. that includes their credit card numbers.

  downloaders and traderz

    1> don't hammer private ftp's.

2> be fair if you trade with people and keep your promises.

3> please don't barrage people with constant, never ending email. once a week shall suffice.

4> try to manage your own downloads. you need many zip disks, a jazz drive or cd recorder..
please don't request a list of 50 items to be filled every time you reformat your computer.
